Notice of Upcoming Water Upgrades at 7th Avenue - February 15, 2018

What work is being done?

The Village of Keremeos has received grant monies to undertake an upgrade to the water main on 7th Avenue, between 4th and 8th Streets. While repairing the roadways after the water main work, the Village will

  • place infrastructure for future development
  • install new “curb flares” to make pedestrian crossings safer on 7th Avenue
  • install some new trees

When will the work take place?

The contract has been awarded and contractors are scheduled to begin milling of the asphalt along 7th Avenue starting February 27, 2018 at 9AM.

How will residents and businesses be impacted?

The water upgrades involve removing asphalt and accessing the water main under 7th Avenue.  The contractors will make every effort to keep driving lanes open and minimize the disruption to parking and pedestrian traffic.

There will be highway signage advising of the roadwork:

  • providing through traffic the option of using the Bypass Road
  • advising that downtown businesses are open for business

Will water be shut off?

Yes, water shut offs will be necessary as upgraded connections are made to each impacted property along 7th Avenue.  The Village has asked that impacted property owners provide their contact information and preferences for the best/worst times for water shut offs to occur.  If you are a 7th Avenue property owner or occupant who may be impacted by this work, please complete and return the form below to help us plan and keep you up to date!

Due to the cold weather conditions, the contractors have delayed the removal of asphalt along 7th Avenue until further notice.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - February 26, 2018

Contractors are now preparing to begin removal of the asphalt along 7th Avenue and are scheduled to begin this work starting Tuesday, February 27th at 9AM (weather permitting).  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - March 5, 2018

Contractors are now preparing to begin removal of the curbs along the 400 block of 7th Avenue and are scheduled to begin this work starting Tuesday, March 6th at 8AM.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - March 9, 2018

Contractors have now placed signs leading into the Village indicating that All Businesses are Open and Parking is Available during the course of this construction.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - March 13, 2018

Contractors will begin preliminary and locate work over the next couple of days in preparation to start laying the watermain as early as Monday, March 19th.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - March 19, 2018

The Keremeos Irrigation District will briefly shut off water service overnight to impacted properties in the downtown area in preparation for water service upgrades.  This water shut off will take place between Tuesday, March 20th at 10 PM and Wednesday, March 21st at 4 AM.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - April 5, 2018

Contractors have now completed installation of the watermain between 4th and 5th Streets.  Testing will begin shortly to prepare for water shut-off and service connection switch over.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - April 23, 2018

Contractors have now completed installation of the watermain between 5th and 6th Streets.  Contractors will perform work up to the 7th Street intersection before attempting to run service connections beneath the highway to properties on the south side of 7th Avenue.  Contractors also plan to perform work up to the 8th Street intersection before conducting the water shut-off required for service connection switch over.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - May 28, 2018

Contractors will be milling asphalt along 7th Avenue between 5th and 7th Streets starting Monday, May 28th.  They anticipate reducing traffic to single lane alternating and expect to have this work completed within the same business day.  This extent of 7th Avenue will be maintained in a gravelly condition until the crossing and tie-in phase is complete, which is estimated to be a couple of weeks.  Parking along 7th Avenue at this location may also be periodically closed to accommodate this work.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - June 5, 2018

Asphalt removal on 7th Avenue has been completed in order to complete service connections from the new watermain to buildings on the south side of 7th Avenue and in preparation for installation of the sidewalk curb flares at the intersections of 4th Street, 5th Street and 6th Street.  The contractors will provide dust control until the road is paved and anticipate installing new sidewalk curb flares towards the end of June to have asphalt placed on 7th Avenue within the first week of July.  Major project construction on 7th Avenue should wrap up the first week of July, with minor work such as placement of paving stones, project clean-up and total project completion slated for the second week of July.  This timeframe is conditional on no delays caused by weather; freezing in the early spring and recent flood management work caused unforeseen construction delays, however the contractors are working diligently to complete the project in a timely manner.   Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Update Regarding Water Upgrade Project at 7th Avenue - June 14, 2018

Contractors are completing work at the 6th Street and 7th Avenue intersection to prepare for service connection cross overs to properties on the southside of 7th Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.  Contractors plan to then complete work at the 7th Street and 7th Avenue intersection before the testing water line in preparation for water service change overs.  Please check keremeos.ca for updates regarding this work.

Notice of Upcoming Water Upgrades at Sparks Drive - February 26, 2018

What work is being done?

The Village of Keremeos has received grant monies to undertake an upgrade to the water main on Sparks Drive, between Keremeos Bypass Road and Highway 3A.  Water lines will also be placed through the parkland dedication located at 500 Vanderlinde Drive to increase water service to properties in that neighbourhood.

When will the work take place?

The contract has been awarded and we anticipate preparatory work to begin March 1, 2018.

How will residents be impacted?

The water upgrades involve removing asphalt and installing the water main under Sparks Drive.  The contractors will commence preparatory work on Sparks Drive starting March 1, 2018.  Residents living in this area will not be able to utilize the roadway during this work and are asked to:

  • Remove all vehicles parked and materials placed along the roadway at Sparks Drive during the course of this work
  • Refrain from driving along this roadway or accessing the rear of their property from this roadway during the course of this work
  • Refrain from frequenting the parkland dedication at 500 Vanderlinde Drive as work will eventually be performed in that vicinity also

Will water be shut off?
